Flag Day is today
If you own a flag, today is a great day to fly it. If you don't own a flag, today is a great day to buy one.
There had been ceremonies celebrating Flag Day since the middle of the 1800's, however it wasn't until August 3,
1949, Congress approved the national observance of Flag Day, and President Harry Truman
signed it into law.
Personally, I look for any occasion to fly my flag. I'm not some crazy, over-the-top zealot. I just happen to love America.
Reciting the pledge of allegiance every morning in school was a source of pride for me. When I attend sporting events, I always remove my cap and place it over my heart while the Star Spangled Banner is being performed. If you're talking to me when the national anthem begins, you can expect me to turn toward the flag and ignore whatever you might be saying. My iPod has Whitney Houston's version of the national anthem on it; it gives me chills.
I proudly support law enforcement and our military. I respect a person's right to peaceful protest and to speak their mind. Blocking roadways and the destruction of people's property aren't covered by those rights. I do understand a person has the right to kneel during the national anthem. By the same token, if you are that person, understand my right to lose support of everything else you do. I was amused when one singer stated, "I hate Americans; I hate America", The way I see it, she sure does love our American dollars.
